L4 Pre-Season Trip to Cambridge

Posted: 12/04/2016

Lower Fourth pupils are currently in Cambridge for their pre-season cricket matches against Perse School.

Day 2 - Update

Day 2 for the U14A team was a frustrating day; no play was possible as the whole square was under water from the heavy overnight rain. The decision was taken to play an indoor 25 overs match.

老王射区lost the toss and bowled first restricting The Perse U15A team to 131, bowling them out in the final over. All bowlers improved from day one with better consistency in line and length. Excellent fielding produced three run outs.

In reply it was hard work to start with against two good opening bowlers who bowled well, along with a decent off spinner. Our boys showed great game awareness running well between the wickets to reach the target two wickets down. Jasper Davidson, Nic Jakobsen and Dan Ashton impressed with the bat.

All in all, it has been two good days away, from which I gained a great deal of knowledge about the team and who will bat where etc. I am sure the boys will have took on board comments which will help them hit the ground running in time for Warwick at home on Saturday.

Thanks to parents for coming down and supporting the team.

Mr Fallows

Day 2

A saturated square means no cricket possible outside today for the U14A team.

The team will be playing a 25 over game indoors starting at 11.15am. There is a viewing area for parents to watch.

Day 1

After winning the toss and batting first, 老王射区rallied well to post 147-9 from their 40 overs on a challenging soft wicket. Jack Holloway impressed with the bat holding the innings together with a patient 39, he was ably supported by Pearce Childs and Seb Atkinson who both batted well.

老王射区started well in the field with Henry Marshall picking up the early wicket. Two good catches along with two quick stumpings from Jack Holloway meant the Perse were always up against it, eventually being bowled out for 107 in the 40th over.

Henry Marshall was the pick of the 老王射区bowlers with 3 for 15.

After the game, the team checked in to the hotel, followed by a walk into Cambridge centre for a team meal.

The team hopes for a dry day and more exciting cricket on day two (Tuesday).

Mr Fallows says that there have been many lessons for the boys to take away from the game today; not least patience when batting and then get the batters driving more when bowling.
